The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ashaley Botwe exists to carry out the Great Commission of Jesus as a denomination of Presbyterian, Evangelical, and Missional congregations. Our aim is to bring light to where there is darkness.
To the glory of God, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ashaley Botwe family aspires to be a global movement of congregations engaged together in God’s mission through transformation, multiplication, and effective biblical leadership, embodying Jesus’ love to our neighbors near and far.
Our name describes us well. The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ashaley Botwe is both evangelical and Presbyterian. We are evangelical in our zeal for the Gospel, as well as, evangelism, missions and living obediently as followers of Jesus. When the E.P. Church started in the latter half of the 1980s a small group of E. P. Church members who used to worship at the E.P. Trinity Parish at Madina and resident in Ashaley Botwe, decided to fellowship together at Ashaley-Botwe because of the distance. In 1987, the group comprising Mrs. Georgina Tamakloe (now Sika-Nartey), the late Wisdom Tamakloe, Mr Dan Tettey, Mr. Simon Dzomato and Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Tettey started worshipping together in the homes of prominent neighbours, but it was short-lived. However, in April 1989, another attempt was made with Mr. Alfred K. Mensah, a professional teacher, joining the group. He together with Mr. Dan Tettey registered interested members ahead of the historic first church service which was successfully held on Sunday, 28th May 1989 in a house adjacent to the residence of the late Mr. & Mrs. Hamenu. Present at the service were 13 adults and 8 children and the sermon for the day was preached by Mr. E.K. Amehe of blessed memory. In addition to the first group were some new members including Mrs. Mercy Amehe, Madam Margaret Srekuma, Miss Anna Dzabaku, Miss Esther Boamah, Miss Evelyn Amenyo, Madam Edith Obubuafo, Madam Patience Sarbah and Mr. and Mrs. Adase. By the third successive church service, the church choir was formed under the leadership of Mr. Mawuli Amenu. As the church was gaining grounds, the need to elect executives to steer affairs became paramount. The Hamenus’ residence this time, hosted this landmark event on 30th July 1989. This apparently re-invigorated strength enabled the church to introduce herself to the E.P. Trinity Parish Church, Madina as a branch. She was readily welcomed as the 3rd member to the tripartite District comprising Madina and Adentan. The District headed by Rev. A.D.Y. Adjakra then appointed Madam Rejoice Tamakloe from Madina, as acting Catechist to nurture the infant E.P. Church at Ashaley-Botwe.
